About
Hailing from the serene coastal town of Chilaw, Kaluthara Patabadige Meriyan Dilhari Madushika Piris, known professionally as Meriyan, stands as a graceful representative of Sri Lanka’s vibrant and evolving generation. At 21 years of age, Meriyan is not merely a competitor on the Miss Grand Sri Lanka stage; she is a passionate guardian of the environment and a dedicated student of the arts. Her journey is defined by a deep connection to the rhythms of nature and a commitment to using her platform for tangible, ecological impact. Born and raised in Chilaw, a city defined by its proximity to the ocean, Meriyan has developed an intrinsic bond with the sea, a bond that forms the foundation of her advocacy and her worldview.
Meriyan’s academic background is rooted in the analytical rigour of the mathematics stream, having successfully completed her G.C.E. Advanced Level examinations. This foundation has cultivated in her a disciplined and logical mindset, qualities that she now applies to her burgeoning career in the fashion industry. While her educational path focused on the sciences, her heart has always leaned towards the expressive potential of fashion and modeling. Recognizing that the modern world requires a blend of both intellectual and creative skills, Meriyan has embarked on a journey of continuous learning. She is currently refining her craft at the renowned Model with Ruki Academy and Agency, where she is mastering the nuances of high-fashion modeling, stage presence, and the professional dynamics of the industry. This training is not just about learning how to walk a runway; it is about developing the confidence and professional poise necessary to thrive in an international arena.
Her professional career as a fashion model is an exploration of identity and style. For Meriyan, modeling is a form of storytelling, a way to convey beauty, grace, and cultural pride. She approaches her work with an openness to growth, constantly seeking to learn from industry experts and translate that knowledge into excellence on the stage. Her choice to pursue modeling is also a strategic step in her wider mission: to gain the visibility and influence needed to champion the causes close to her heart. She understands that the pageant stage is a powerful platform, and she is committed to utilizing it not just for personal gain, but for the betterment of her community and the environment she holds so dear.
The core of Meriyan’s identity and her purpose as a pageant contestant lies in her passionate advocacy: ‘Blue Future – Save Our Oceans.’ Growing up in Chilaw, she has witnessed firsthand the beauty of the marine ecosystem and, more alarmingly, the devastating impact of pollution, plastic waste, and coastal erosion. Her advocacy is more than just a slogan; it is a call to action. Meriyan believes that the ocean is the lifeblood of our planet, a source of sustenance and beauty that we have a moral obligation to protect. Her mission is to raise awareness about the fragile state of marine ecosystems and to empower the youth of Sri Lanka to become active stewards of the environment.
Meriyan envisions a future where communities are not just passive observers of environmental decay, but proactive participants in restoration and conservation. She aims to initiate and support projects that combat plastic pollution along the coastal belt, educate the public on the importance of marine health, and foster a culture of sustainability. She recognizes that the youth are the most important stakeholders in this mission, as it is their future that is most directly threatened by the changing climate and environmental degradation. Through her platform, she intends to mobilize young people, giving them the information and the inspiration they need to demand change and take direct action. She believes that empowerment is the key, empowering people to understand their role in the ecosystem, and empowering them to hold industries and institutions accountable for their impact on our oceans.
In her view, advocacy is not a static task; it is a movement. By bringing the ‘Blue Future’ initiative to the Miss Grand Sri Lanka stage, Meriyan hopes to bridge the gap between local environmental concerns and national policy discussions. She wants to demonstrate that a beauty queen can and should be an environmental warrior, using her visibility to bring attention to issues that are often overlooked until it is too late. Her approach is rooted in love, awareness, and action. She believes that we can only protect what we love, we can only love what we understand, and we can only change what we are willing to fight for.
Meriyan’s personal philosophy is summarized in her motto: "The ocean gives us life; it is our responsibility to protect it with love, awareness, and action." This statement reflects her maturity, her sense of responsibility, and her unwavering hope for a cleaner and healthier planet. As she prepares for the challenges ahead, she remains grounded in her roots, fueled by her ambition, and guided by her purpose. She is ready to walk the ramp, not just with poise, but with a deep sense of conviction. Meriyan is a young woman who knows that her journey is about far more than the crown; it is about the legacy she leaves behind and the positive change she inspires. She invites the people of Sri Lanka to join her in her mission to protect our blue future, ensuring that the seas that shaped her childhood continue to provide life and inspiration for generations to come. Her dedication to the ocean is a testament to her character, a young woman of depth, compassion, and tireless resolve.
